Summary: What is the theme that runs through the whole of Jonah? Undeserved grace.

From Series: "You are there - a series in Jonah"

We think it’s about a whale. Or a prophet’s remarkable story from disobedience to obedience and then… disappointment? Or perhaps it’s a brief missionary biography. But underneath (and besides, and above) the whole remarkable account, we find the Lord. He calls. He speaks the Saving Word. He is present and working. He is on the ship and in the sea, in the city and by the shelter. Whether pagan sailor, disobedient prophet, or penitent enemy, the characters experience the Lord’s compassion. HE IS THERE. The book Jonah helps us to see that the Lord is with us and the Lord is at work (and has been at his work and will be at his work) to redeem and reclaim this world for eternal glory. As we recognize His presence, we are invited to experience the Lord in his abounding compassion.
