Ready: Through the Gift of Repentance

Summary:When Jesus says “repent,” it is good news–a gift that brings the Freedom of God’s Kingdom.

From Series: "Ready - A Series in Mark"

No one wants to be unprepared. We spend a good portion of our lives getting ready: ready for a career, ready for a family, ready for the next responsibility or challenge. Every morning we get ourselves ready for a new day. Yet are we missing the most important preparations? Are we ready to follow God – today? How do we walk His good and ancient paths in a constantly changing environment? As Jesus began proclaiming the Kingdom in Galilee, the people who experienced His new presence and power also had to wrestle with this question: are we ready? “A new teaching – and with authority!” (Mark 1:27). As the news spread about Jesus, we find that some were ready for his new way, the “new wine” (2:22), and some were not. What characterized those who were Ready? Those who know Jesus long to stay in step with the His ways when he takes us in new directions. The teaching of the Kingdom has not changed; but our times change. Are we ready for a new season? How do we know? What does readiness look like, personally and corporately? By spending time in Mark 1-3, we hope to strengthen our readiness as a church.
