The Race: Finishing Well

The Race

Summary: God has marked out a glorious race for you – finish well, all the way through to the end!

From Series: "The Race"

How is our spiritual formation like a quarter-mile race? When you run the quarter mile, you put in hours of training before even getting to the starting line. The sooner the training begins, the more confident and able you will be when the day of the race arrives. You have one lap to run around the track. Around the first turn, you need to set a pace you can maintain comfortably. If you start too fast, you won’t have the reserves to make it to the end. The second turn takes you into the back stretch. Here focus is all-important: keeping your attention on your own pace and form, not comparing yourself to the other runners. The third turn is where you start to fight through. This is hard. In life, you could be facing a crisis, or just the unrelenting pressures of life. You have only two choices: give up or fight through. Training with a team provides support and encouragement when you are exhausted or hurting. The finish line is ahead. At every step of the race, you are aiming to finish well. And finishing the race well takes preparation, conditioning, and perseverance. Christ Community, our desire is to run well the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus!
