People-Watching: One New Humanity

People Watching

Summary: The church AND OUR CHURCH should be vivid reflections of the hope and vision we have in Revelation: that people from every tribe and language, people and nation will gather. And our newness is to be reflected BRIGHTLY in this broken, chaotic, and evil world. The way the church reflects God’s grace through Jesus is one of the greatest testimonies to the intense relevance of the gospel lived out in our lives.

Scripture References: Ephesians 2:13-15

From Series: "People Watching"

Have you ever been in a context where the sheer variety of peoples around you would make impossible to know where in the world you were? An airport terminal in a large urban center; a grocery store in Queens, NY; a beach in LA; or even a university dining hall? On one level, these experiences provide a vision of what’s coming. God’s a people person, and He calls us to be His people. Who are the peoples of God? The answer is a picture that emerges in Scripture, slowly at first, and then bursting forth in a triumphant finale. We are looking to the Bible to answer this question over the next few months. Along the way we’ll not only understand God’s heart for all people, but also receive a challenge to live more fully as his people in the way we love and serve others. Our key passage is an expression of worship that illuminates the glorious conclusion of our study: You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slain and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth (Revelation 5:-10).
