God dwells in unapproachable light. He spoke into creation and there WAS light. Jesus was sent as light to the world. Light is a compelling image because it can hold many layers of rich truth. Light is an image of sight, of hope, of purity, of new life. As we celebrate the light of Jesus in Christmas, we are sensing the light of Christ rising upon us as God directs us into the coming days. When light comes, it changes the space; it creates what was not. In this advent season – a season of waiting, expecting, longing – we will focus together on the effect of God’s light through Jesus Christ on our lives. We will also be encouraged to be beacons of His light as it shines through us.
