Worth It: Unshakeable Kingdom

Summary: How do we work as God calls when all around us we see reason for discouragement? How do we labor with our eyes on a lasting, unshakeable Kingdom? And what difference does it make?

From Series: "It’s Worth It: A Series in Haggai"

Haggai speaks the Word of the Lord to a tired and discouraged people, to a misaligned people who had stepped away from God’s call. This word comes to a people with every excuse, in their minds, for stopping the work of God. His message is this: press on in the work. The service of the Lord is worth it – worth the sacrifice and holiness. The goals of God are worth it. The glory you see now may not match your dreams, but there’s a promised glory coming, one that will bring surpassing peace and joy. It’s worth it. And so with us. Let’s be reminded again – it’s worth it. Doing God’s thing in God’s Way is worth it. We can get discouraged. We step away. We wander off the path. When it comes to following Jesus, sometimes the work is hard, and the payoff seems distant. But Haggai’s message, 2500 years old, still reminds us that serving the Lord is worth everything. In our work, “my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear… what is desired by all will come (Hag 2:5, 7).” What more could we want?
