Cruciform: Otherworldly
Summary: Jesus IS a King, but not as people expect. His Kingdom is not of this world. As His people, we too can live as those “from another world,” even as we are in this world for its good.

Reflections on a life of obedience through the lens of Jesus’ example in John 18-19 As we walk through Lent together this year, we will be concentrating on Jesus’ crucified life. Flowing from his obedience to the Father, the passion narrative is a beautiful capstone example of Christ’s cruciform existence. He walked by the Spirit, served His Father and did not treasure not his own flesh. This series will examine John 18-19 in relationship with the apostles’ teachings. As we do, we’ll find that the Crucified Life belongs not only to Jesus, but also those who call Jesus Lord and live by the power of the Holy Spirit. Contrary to the world’s message, the way to true freedom and love comes through a Cruciform life. As Romans 6 exhorts, “We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin – because anyone who has died has been set free from sin” (6:6-7). Or as Paul teaches the Galatians, “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh” (Gal 5:24). Cruciform and free – this is the good life. As a church, our mission is to be, make and send disciples. If we follow Jesus, we will be those learning this way of sacrificial freedom.
